Robert Barnard Helmer, 71, died on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
He was born July 16, 1944 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to William and Muriel Helmer.
He was united in marriage to Jeanne ""Elsa"" Helmer on December 11, 1982 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bob adored his wife and missed her deeply since her passing in 2011. He was comforted by the thought of seeing her again in Heaven.
He was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Church, participating in RCIA in recent years. He appreciated the kindness of its members and practiced his Christian beliefs in how he lived.
Bob enjoyed sunny days and long walks, good conversations and time spent outdoors. He was grateful for friendships and considered his next door neighbors to be his adopted family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; and his parents, William and Muriel.
He is survived by his daughter, Tana Susanne Helmer; and friends he considered family.
Bob was a constant supporter of St. Jude's Children's Hospital and memorials may be made to them in lieu of flowers.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Thomas Catholic Church.
He will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
