There has been some recent difficulty with adding pictures from the newspaper, but that will hopefully be fixed, soon.

I want to especially thank Sara Turngren Lohaus for her efforts in finding classmate information for this section.

Eric Aanenson

Birth Date: 2023-12-06
Deceased Date: 2021-08-17
Obituary:

Eric E. Aanenson

Aanenson, Eric E. A true Renaissance man, Eric, age 77, passed away August 17, 2021. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Vernon Oliver and Margaret (Holk) Aanenson and one brother Gary Aanenson.

After graduating with a degree in Physics from University of Minnesota in the late 1960s, Eric went on to become a laser researcher in the missile division at Lockheed Industries based in San Francisco. During that time, Eric dedicated himself to furthering his education, graduating with an MBA in the early 1970s from Santa Clara State University. He soon became Operations Manager for Liquide Air (US Division). In 1974, Eric chose to return to Minnesota, joining his family-owned company, Old Dutch Foods, the second largest snack food company in North America, to work in plant operations. He quickly advanced to Chief Operating Officer and Co-Chair of Old Dutch in Canada. In 1998 Eric advanced to become Chief Operating Officer for the United States as well. Eric added to his credentials by actively volunteering in his field's professional associations throughout his career. This commitment to advancing the snack food industry culminated in his serving as Chairman of the Canadian Snack Food Association for two years during the late 1970s.

Never a deep sea fisherman, but always the true physicist, Eric invented a unique deep sea fishing lure for which he held three patents. This lure was tested and proven successful numerous times, but most proudly by catching an 800 pound Yellowfin Tuna while it was in use. Along with an extremely active professional career, Eric held a close relationship with both of his parents. He greatly enjoyed annual hunting and fishing trips with his father into the wilds of Canada from a young age through his adulthood. These trips instilled within Eric a lasting love and respect of nature. Conversely, his mother introduced Eric to the classical musical arts. After going to his first Opera production, Eric developed a lifelong passion for Grand Opera, annually providing financial support to numerous arts organizations including the Metropolitan Opera and the Minnesota Opera. In fact, Eric brought the first fully produced opera performance to the Island of Maui in Hawaii in an effort to introduce the Island's residents to this form of art. His generous donation to the Maui Arts and Cultural Center funded this successful endeavor. Eric's early dream was to become a concert pianist. However, after a tragic car accident in 1961, three of his fingers were amputated. While ending this career dream, Eric learned to rewrite piano master works to be played with only seven fingers. He enjoyed being an exceptional pianist throughout his life. Those listening to his performances would rarely recognize that he was mentally making alterations to the notes as he played to compensate for his disability.

Eric's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 17 years, Tracy; son Chad (Carmen) Aanenson, son Marc (Cindy) Aanenson; stepson Matthew Wolfe Santori; stepdaughter Maria (Cole Santos) Wolfe. In addition, Eric enjoyed his 10 grandchildren: Joshua (Laura) Cervantes, Jacqueline Cervantes, David Aanenson, Hallie Aanenson, Sarah Aanenson, William Santos, Elysia Santos, Marcus Santos, Amara Santos, and Dominic Santori. Eric also was extremely close to his brother Steve (Beverly) Aanenson and his only niece, Stephanie Aanenson. A Celebration of Life event will be held a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are preferred to the "Eric E. Aanenson Metabolic Research Fund" at the University of Minnesota Foundation, 200 Oak Street, Suite 500, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55455. Bill Anderson

Obituary:
Mary McLeod (Zakariasen) - August 19th, 2011
Bill was a smart, really nice guy I shared some classes with.  Occasionally, some of us would get up early and go out for pancakes before school in his vintage car.  It was a great ride, except that the hood flew up at random while he was driving.  We had such fun!  Dr. Holcher took us through our paces in American History, and Bill always led the class.  He died much, much too young.

On September 17, 1962, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country until his honorable discharge on June 21, 1966.
Douglas was united in marriage to Jeanette Ardell Moen on June 1, 1968, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Henning, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with two sons: Nathan and Anthony. They made their home in Deephaven, Minnesota while Douglas attended Brown Institute specializing in computer software. He was employed at Munsingwear as a computer programmer.

During this time, he became active with Habitat for Humanity and the MS bike rides. He participated in the Habitat for Humanity Ironman, riding his bike across Minnesota 10 consecutive summers and multiple MS rides. When he retired in 2011, he and Jeanette moved to Henning, Minnesota to be closer to Jeanette's family. He helped with the Moen Family Reunion and created a book of the Moen family history which he continued to edit as he received more information. Bruce "Bock" Anderson

Deceased Date: 2012-09-23
Obituary:
Anderson, Bruce F. (Bock) died at age 68 after a long illness on September 23, 2012, at his Maiden Rock, Wisconsin farmhouse companioned by his devoted son Jason, daughter-in-law Ashley, and the last of Bock's many rescued animals, Mona the cat. Born in Seattle, Washington on February 23, 1944 to Edith and Fred G. Anderson, Bock is survived by Jason, Ashley, and granddaughter Emma of Minnesota, sister Barbara Seabridge of California, and nieces Sasha Pope and Christine Ferrone. A wide and diverse circle of beloved companions, longtime friends and neighbors, former spouses, fellow artists, colleagues and adventurers also mourn the passing of this generous, wildly creative man. Bock grew up in Hopkins, Minnesota and attended Hopkins schools as well as Gustavus Adolphus College, graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, spending his senior year in Holland. After graduation he taught art, worked in the paint and wallcovering industry with his father's company, co-hosted an interior design cable television program, and in his later years produced arts and crafts, and captained a nature tour boat in Florida. Bock became a nature lover/adventurer at an early age. Always peripatetic and before he was big enough to backpack, Bock wheelbarrowed his camping gear down the long sloping yard of the family home in Hopkins in order to sleep under the stars. As an adult he would navigate and lead river rafting trips in the Grand Canyon and South America. A lifetime of treks, river trips, and forays concluded with his roundtrip drive from Wisconsin to the art-filled city of Oaxaca, Mexico in the winter of 2010. He described that 2,000 mile journey as his Swedish version of "Nirvana". Unselfish, imaginative, eager to discuss history and politics, host a dinner party, recycle outdoor sculptures, rescue a stray animal, plant more trees, or make a "bakery run" to Maiden Rock, Bock's final river run occurred a few weeks before he died -- floating an inner tube down his beloved Rush River. A memorial picnic was held at the farm on Saturday, September 29. Bock was aided by Hospice Care in his final years. His favorite charity to which revenues from his art have been donated is Physicians without Borders. .Published in Star Tribune on October 7, 2012
William Ruzin - December 9th, 2012
Bruce was a childhood friend and neighbor when we lived in Minnetonka, MN.
I remember how much fun we had together as kids. Bruce's mother drove a 1955 Ford and Bruce and I would "drive" it back and forth in and out of the garage.  We'd put the car in neutral, and then one would push it while the other took a turn at "driving".  While I haven't seen Bruce since then, his memory will always remain in my fondest memories of my childhood.  My condolances to his family.

Sincerely,

Bill Ruzin
