Dear members of the Hopkins High School class of 1962,
It is with profound sadness that I inform you that one of your classmates, Judith Carol Cumming (LaSalle), passed away on January 8, 2022. She is survived by her husband, Jim, and their daughter, Katie.
After graduating from Hopkins High School, Judy attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis and graduated in June 1966. On July 1, 1967, she and Jim, then a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, were married at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park. The newlyweds headed to Ft. Campbell, KY, and began what became a 20-year career. After traveling to various postings in the U.S., including one in the Minneapolis area, they settled in Alexandria, VA, and remained there until 1999, when they moved to Heritage Hunt, an active adult community, in Gainesville, VA.
Throughout her life, Judy participated in numerous volunteer activities at our daughter’s schools, as well as in the communities where we lived. She was an extrovert, bright and energetic, and she applied those traits to every activity in which she was involved. She loved people, and she quickly and easily made friends wherever we lived. She enjoyed conversations with family members, friends, and neighbors, and if someone needed help, she was always ready to help.
Although Judy had not lived in the Minneapolis suburban area for decades, she had many fond memories of living in Minnetonka and her years at Hopkins HS. When she reminisced about classmates, she always had a big smile on her face. She was happy to have been a friend to so many fellow classmates, and she was proud to have graduated from Hopkins HS.
Sincerely,
Jim Cumming
