Jerry Johnson
Jerry "Butch" Johnson was always into music and, although he worked at the Hopkins Pet Hospital all during high school, he chose to become a musician after graduation. He was very successful, and played bass with the house band at the Crystal Chalet on Highway 100 and North 36th. He used to come over to our apartment to do his laundry and hang out when my son was a baby, and often brought records by new artists. I remember when he discovered Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Ponies. He wrote out the lyrics of "Long Long Time" for me. I think I still have it somewhere. One night after the bar closed, Butch was driving home in his Cadillac and evidently fell asleep at the wheel. His car left the road and hit some trees and he was killed.
